Artificial Selection Breeding for Desirable Traits

Artificial selection is the process of breeding animals for their desirable traits by an outside source other than the organism itself or natural selection. Unlike  natural  selection, artificial selection is not random and is controlled by the desires of humans. Animals, both domesticated and wild animals that are now in captivity, are often subjected to artificial selection by humans to achieve the ideal pet in terms of looks and demeanor or a combination of both. Artificial Selection Renowned scientist  Charles Darwin  is credited with coining the term artificial selection in his book On the Origin of Species, which he wrote upon returning from the Galapagos Islands and experimenting with crossbreeding birds. The process of artificial selection had actually been used for centuries to create livestock and animals bred for war, agriculture, and beauty. Unlike animals, humans dont often experience artificial selection as a general population, though arranged marriages could also be argued as an example of such. However, parents who arrange marriages generally choose a mate for their offspring based on financial security rather than genetic traits. Origin of the Species Darwin made use of artificial selection to help gather evidence to explain his theory of  evolution  when he returned to England from his journey to the Galapagos Islands on the  HMS Beagle.  After studying the  finches  on the islands, Darwin turned to breeding birds— specifically pigeons—at home to try and prove his ideas. Darwin was able to show that he could choose which traits were desirable in pigeons and increase the chances for those to be passed on to their offspring by breeding two pigeons with the trait; since Darwin performed his work before  Gregor Mendel  published his findings and founded the field of genetics, this was a key piece to the evolutionary theory puzzle. Darwin hypothesized that artificial selection and  natural selection  functioned the same way, wherein traits that were desirable gave the individuals an advantage: Those who could survive would live long enough to pass the desirable traits on to their offspring. Modern and Ancient Examples Perhaps the best-known use of artificial selection is dog breeding—from wild wolves to  dog show  winners of the American Kennel Club, which recognizes over 700 different breeds of dogs. Most of the breeds the AKC recognizes are the result of an artificial selection method known as crossbreeding wherein a male dog from one breed mates with a female dog of another breed to create a hybrid. One such example of a newer breed is the labradoodle, a combination of a Labrador retriever and a poodle. Dogs, as a species, also offer an example of artificial selection in action. Ancient humans were mostly nomads who roamed from place to place, but they found that if they shared their food scraps with wild wolves, the wolves would protect them from other hungry animals. The wolves with the most domestication were bred and, over several generations, humans domesticated the wolves and kept breeding those that showed the most promise for hunting, protection, and affection. The domesticated wolves had undergone artificial selection and became a new species that humans called dogs.

Vengeance and Revenge in Beowulf The oldest of the great lengthy poems written in English and perhaps the lone survivor of a genre of Anglo-Saxon epics, Beowulf, was written by an unknown Christian author at a date that is only estimated. Even so, it is a remarkable narrative story in which the poet reinvigorates the heroic language, style, and values of Germanic oral poetry. He intertwines a number of themes including good and evil, youth and old age, paganism and Christianity and the heroic ideal code, into his principal narrative and numerous digressions and episodes; all of which were extremely important to his audience at the time. For twelve years, Hrothgar suffers in shame because Grendel would never parley or make peace with any Dane nor stop his death-dealing nor pay the death-price. Beowulf feels compelled to come to Hrothgars aid, not only for fame and glory, but also to settle an old feud between their kin. Before long, Beowulf, the Geat captain had boldly fulfilled his boast to the Danes: he had healed and relieved a huge distress, unremitting humiliations. (L. 827-830) Before Beowulf killed Grendel, one of his Geats had to die by the hands of Grendel. 7th February 2014 Short Assignment 3 Have you ever experienced the situation when you think people are different than you but in real it turns out that they are not? Last Wednesday, while sitting in the Gresham Food Court, I noticed several things. I saw that when people came in to eat, they mostly sat down with their friend that belonged to the same background as themselves. I believe one of the reasons for it is Ignorance. For instance in the essay My Freshman Year: Worldliness and Worldview, Nathan mentions that Americans have very limited knowledge about people from other backgrounds which can limit the interaction (Nathan par. 1). I also noticed that people were divided into two groups, the Asians and the Americans. Mostly while Asians were reserved and curling in themselves, all the Americans were sitting in groups talking loudly and laughing and trying to make a conversation. This made me realize that Americans are somewhat on the extrovert end whereas Asians are not much of a talker. Lastly I found out that like every other person in the world, Americans also have the general tendency to have fun. They eat the same things we eat and drink the same things we drink. They are no different than us. We just expect their worldview to be different but its similar to ours. For instance in Nikki Reynas article Loving Hip-Hop in Morocco, she mentions that Josh Asen was surprised at hip-hops popularity in Morocco as the country wasnt included in international marketing or promotions. He never would have guessed that Moroccan people would be into hip-hop (Reyna par. 3). People already have a mindset about other cultures. You wont know until you observe it by yourself. How Similes Work A simile is a direct comparison of two different and often unrelated objects. Similes  are useful for making creative writing come to life. Common similes include run like the wind, busy as a bee, or as happy as a clam. Before looking at any examples, you should try a little brainstorming exercise. First, jot down a list of characteristics of the subject youre writing about. For example, is it noisy, dense, or annoying? Once you have a shortlist completed, look over those characteristics and try to imagine an unrelated object that shares those characteristics. This list of similes will help you come up with your own examples. Similes That Include the Word Like Many similes are easy to identify because they include the word like. Compare and Contrast the Ways in Which Two Poets Create Sympathy for Their Characters – ‘on a Portrait of a Deaf Man’ and ‘the River God’. Essay The poems ‘On a Portrait of a Deaf Man’, written by John Betjeman and ‘The River God’, written by Stevie Smith appear as two very different poems; one in monologue form and the other in a regular form; but they are in fact two very similar poems. ‘On a Portrait of a Deaf Man’ presents a character mourning the death of a deaf man who was very close to him/her, and ‘The River God’ presents a lonely God who is abused by people and resorts to murdering women to keep himself company. Both characters are lonely and the portrayal of this loneliness causes you – the reader to feel sympathetic towards them. The ‘River God’ is lonely because he is only used by others, no one stays to be with him, they leave – ‘and I like the people who bathe in me . . . or will she go away?’ suggesting that he enjoys their company but doesn’t want them to go as he get’s lonely. In ‘On a Portrait of a Deaf Man’ the mourner feels lonely because he/she has lost someone very close to them – ‘the kind old face . . . he took me on long silent walks . . . when young’ implying they were close as they have known each other since a young age. Both blame others for the situations that they have found themselves in. The ‘River God’ blames the women who ‘bathe in [him]’ for his loneliness, meaning that out of desperation he tries to keep the women with him but by doing so ends up killing them ‘she lies in my beautiful deep river bed with many a weed’. I believe he understands though that he has killed them and that is why he keeps them in the ‘beautiful deep river bed’; this causes you to feel some sympathy for him as he accidentally kills them but then out of love keeps them in his ‘beautiful deep river bed’. The mourner blames God for the death of the ‘deaf man’: ‘You, God, who treat him thus and thus, /Say ‘Save his soul and pray.’/You ask me to believe You and / I only see decay’ describing how God should be, but then the reality of asking God for things which aren’t achieved. This causes you to feel sympathetic because you see someone who asked God to save him yet he still died – ‘see decay’. The poems both begin with descriptions of characters. ‘The River God’ begins ‘the kind old face, the egg-shaped head’ and ‘On a Portrait of a Deaf Man’ begins ‘I may be smelly and I may be old’; the first description makes you feel sad that someone kind and good has died and the second makes you feel pitiful for the river, it’s not the river’s fault that it’s that way as it’s reflective of old age and the abuse it has had by mankind, all of which you would be distraught if you found yourself in so you can feel sympathetic towards them. The poets use the death of a person to draw sympathy from you. In ‘The River God’ a woman dies, one that he was fond of and he was against her dying; in ‘On a Portrait of a Deaf Man’ a friendly deaf man dies, presumably suddenly; these draw your sympathy because it suggests that they are lonely, in a state of mourning and vulnerable – all of which are states in which you would not want to find yourself and when you see someone else in such a state, you will feel sympathetic and be able to relate to the emotions they are feeling. The poets use the deaths of characters in their poems to create side-personas for the characters through the persona of the main-speaking character. ‘The River God’ uses the dead woman to give another perspective of what’s going on, ‘This beautiful lady, or will she go away?’ shows this perfectly. The questioning gives her perspective that she wants to leave but she is being held, leading you to feel sympathetic for her as this large ‘River’ is holding her captive and she cannot leave. However, it shows the misunderstanding of the ‘River God’ as she is drowned, ‘Oh who would guess what a beautiful white face lies there’, ‘white face’ implying she is dead, leading you to feel sympathetic again towards him as he is totally ignorant of everything going on around him. ‘On a Portrait of a Deaf Man’, the writer uses the deaf man to display what exactly he/she has lost through his death, Ã¢â‚¬Ë œHe knew the names of ev’ry bird’. This shows how caring he was and this would presumably translate to how he acts to people – kind and caring – and lead to sympathy as you would never want to lose a person so good to die. In conclusion, the poets create sympathy for their characters very effectively through: descriptions, meanings and powers out of the characters control; all of which attract the reader to feel some understanding, pity or empathy towards them. Philosophy of Education :: Philosophy of Teaching Statement

Philosophy of Education I have thought several times over what my philosophy towards teaching is, or quite frankly, will be as I learn more about the teaching profession and eventually begin teaching on my own. While I have already been teaching swim lessons for the past five years and presently hold the position of assistant football coach at Bluefield Middle School, I can say that my hat goes off to anyone possessing the patience and expertise to stand before a classroom or gymnasium of students and have the confidence to pass their knowledge on to that group of students. On the other hand, I have an equal level of disgust for those "oxygen thieves" that merely roll out a basketball and read the paper while the whole time claim to be teaching. These teachers, a term I use loosely, have taught nothing. They have at no point attempted to communicate with their students the importance of taking care of their bodies and learning the essential movements that will provide them the opportunity to be active for a lifetime. With that in mind, it our responsibility as Health and Physical Educators to provide that knowledge, instill that importance and to never allow a child to fall through the cracks, but rather to make a lasting impression on the lives we teach. It is my firm belief that our duties begin in the way we present ourselves. I look back at my experiences growing up and compare them to what I have learned. It amazes me that someone on the opposite end of healthy can try to teach others how to be healthy. The solution lies with credibility. We must evoke fitness and encourage that concept in our own lives before we should ever think to influence the life and well-being of children who see teachers as role models. How can we expect our students to accomplish something that we are not willing to pursue? We must challenge our student’s everyday by setting high, but realistic goals for those under our instruction. Why would you give a student a starting line without defining a place to finish and leave them with a sense of accomplishment?

Aluminium is the third most common element on Earth after oxygen and silicon. The aluminium industry had a Gross Domestic Product of $3.1 billion in1997/98, ranking the aluminium industry amongst Australia's leading manufacturers and employs over 16000 people directly. The total value of export earnings was about $6.3 billion in 1998/99, second only to coal as an export industry for Australia. These facts underline the fact that the aluminium industry is a major asset to Australia and is world competitive. Aluminium is important to us currently and is used from everything from soft drink cans to car bodies to window frames. Aluminium is lightweight, strong, long-lasting, highly corrosion resistant as a protective oxide coating is naturally generated, is an excellent heat and electricity conductor, has good reflective properties, is very ductile, completely impermeable and odourless and totally recyclable. Despite this, less than 200 tonnes in 1885 were produced compared to approximately 22 million tonnes in 1998 – plus some 5 million tonnes of recycled Aluminium. This is because aluminium is so highly oxidized that it can be only refined using huge amounts of electricity and electricity did not become readily available until this century. Thus, it is known as the metal of the 20th century. There are three process involved in the manufacture of Aluminium: Bauxite mining, alumina refinery and aluminium smelting. Raw Materials – Cryolite (Na3AlF6). Sodium Aluminium Fluoride. This reduces the temperature needed to electrolyse the aluminium reducing the cost. It was originally obtained from mines in Greenland, but the supply has depleted and it is now produced synthetically. – Aluminium fluoride (AlF3), calcium fluoride (CaF2) and Lithium Fluoride (LiF) which play the part of reducing the melting point of the mixture. – Alumina (Al2O3). This is obtained from bauxite, a red rock-like material, which also contains a lot of unwanted substances. Bauxite is mined in Western Australia, Queensland and Northern Territory. Bauxite mining leaves a lot of barren areas which will be investigated later. Bauxite and alumina are stored in storage bunkers. To produce aluminium metal, bauxite has to be concentrated, thus removing most impurities. Bauxite is crushed and washed to remove some of the clay and sand then dried in kilns. This is because crushed bauxite is easier to transport. The ore is loaded onto trucks, railway cars, or conveyor belts and transported to ships or refinery. The concentration of bauxite into alumina is called the Bayer process as shown below. Note that the red mud from the refinery must be carefully disposed of and this will be explore in Environmental factors. The Chemical Process To refine aluminium from alumina which contains both aluminium and oxygen, electrolysis is used, in a process known as the Hall-Heroult process. Alumina has to be liquefied (it is mixed with cryolite to reduce melting temperatures) and each cell is supplied with four to six volts and 150,000 amps of electricity. The sequence of creation is: All pots are covered so that exhaust gases are drawn into a large fume duct (will be explored later). As this involves consumable anodes, the pots cannot be sealed and every time a pot is opened, a small quantity of volatile gases escapes. For the safety and comfort of workers, the potroom needs to be well ventilated and the workers need breathing protection equipment. So much electricity is needed in this process that many smelters are located near hydro-electric plants or have their own power stations such as Alcoa which mines brown coal to generate electricity that meets 50% of its energy requirements. Approximately 16 kWh of energy is needed to produce one kg of molten metal in the Hall-Heroult Process compared to a theoretical energy of 6.34 kWh per kg of molten metal. Two main causes of this are the reoxidation of aluminium metal by carbon dioxide and high temperature, as well as side reactions wasting energy. Computers are now being used to monitor each pot continuously and set a best voltage for any particular condition reducing energy consumption. Covering the top of the anodes with an insulator to prevent them burning off and improved quality of carbon anodes reduces energy loss. Australia's comparatively has a low consumption of power for each kilogram of aluminium produced. Research is currently being done to find an alternative extraction process and the two main ways are through carbon reduction and electrolysis of aluminium chloride. The Product Aluminium, Al a Group III element is the product that results. Its properties and uses were discussed above. Other than the pure substance, alloys are also made containing copper, magnesium, manganese, chromium, silicon, nickel, iron and zinc. Quality control issues include the issue that normal refining processes do not remove all the impurities from aluminium, so most commonly used industrial aluminium already has small amounts of impurities alloyed with it. Fortunately, this makes aluminium stronger but remains easy to bend. Some alloys are less suitable for extrusion than others, requiring higher pressures, allowing only low extrusion speeds and/or having less than acceptable surface finish and section complexity. Aluminium sheets which are rolled from ingots are not flat when produced from the rolling mills. To flatten it, they are stretched between heavy-duty hydraulically-operated grips. A Micro Alignment Telescope with sweep optical square is used to check the flatness within specified tolerance to ensure the quality. One random sample for each batch of the aluminium and its alloy ingots undergo an optical spectrometry analysis to ensure that the results lie within the limits determined by Australian specification. The by-products and waste products of this product are carbon dioxide and fluoride gases as well as sulphur and nitrogen oxides. Carbon dioxide gas is a greenhouse gas and large amounts of fluorides are toxic. Sulphur and nitrogen oxides are acid rain gases. Therefore these need to be controlled and this will be investigated below in Environmental Factors. The aluminium and its alloy ingots or its processed equivalents are packed and distributed through shipping. Approximately 78% of all aluminium produced in Victoria is exported. Location Australia has six aluminium smelters located in Tasmania (one), Victoria (two), New South Wales (two) and Queensland (one). However Bauxite mines are in Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia. This is because the energy costs are too high to set up a plant near the mines but in Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales electricity is cheap. As lots of electricity is used in the electrolysis, it is cheaper to transport the bauxite to the smelters than to set up a smelter near the mines and pay higher costs for electricity. Other factors that are taken into account include the labour force available (generally higher near cities), transportation of the aluminium produced (so the smelter has to be near ports, railway stations or highways), geographic factors (smelters are built in residential areas where the land is cheap) and legal factors (whether the sounds and the activities such as the fumes released and the transportation of aluminium using trucks would affect nearby residential properties who could sue). Environmental By recycling aluminium, approximately 95% of the energy (approximately 2 billion kWh of electricity) otherwise required to produce the primary metal aluminium can be saved. This makes the aluminium cheaper to manufacture as well as reduce the rapid depletion of non-renewable fossil fuels to produce electricity. When land is mined for Bauxite, active reforestation must be carried out to ensure the stability of the environment as well as ensuring that the soil left over doesn't erode and cause mud slides. Extreme care must be taken with the handling and disposal of red mud from the refineries. This is usually pumped into dams which are sealed with impervious material to prevent pollution of surrounding countryside. The manufacture of aluminium produces carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, fluoride gas, a toxic gas and other exhaust gases (such as the sulphur and nitrate oxides) that can potentially be harmful. To combat their pollution, all pots are covered and the fumes are drawn into a fume duct where the gases pass through beds of alumina which adsorbs over 99%of the fluoride. All cryolite needs to be manufactured synthetically and suitable fluorides are expensive and so they need to be recovered. The gases then pass through dust filter bags and a dry scrubber and treatment facilities to remove the greenhouse and other gases and only clean air is released. Although manufacture of aluminium uses a lot of energy and other options to mine aluminium are being investigated (as shown above), the use of aluminium itself has saved a large amount of energy because they are strong and light. It is estimated that 1,230 litres of petrol was saved in cars that used 64 kg of aluminium instead of other metals and this saved more than five times the energy required to produce each kilogram of aluminium used in the car.

This Civil War was fought on our own ground, between our own people, between Northerners and Southerners. Economics, Influential writings, and expansion may have fueled the war, but the main underlying cause for war was slavery. Slavery dominated the Southern economy. Demand for cotton exploded as the industrial revolution made the mass production of textiles possible. King Cotton reigned supreme, and cheap labor was needed more than ever to supply these demands. The southern economy invented the gang system to increase production on their plantations. It permitted a regimented pace of work that was overly harsh and crude to slaves. Although strongly opposed to the need for slavery in the souths economy, northerners were almost hypocrites in their beliefs. They employed intense cheap labor to poor immigrants entering the country. Influential writers like Hinton Rowan Helper blamed the souths economys use of slavery for their overall decline. Helper wrote The Impending Crisis of the South: How to Meet It, a collaboration of charts, statistics and graphs proving that slavery did not benefit the south but instead put it behind the production rate of the north. Other influential northern writers like Harriet Beecher Stowe and William Lloyd Garrison wrote against the moral wrongs of slavery. Stowe wrote Uncle Toms Cabin portraying the slave as a humble, hardworking man and his owner as a brutal, cruel, dishonest slave owner. Southern and Northern tension increased as a result of this book because southerners felt that a woman for the North, who has never seen a first hand account of slavery shouldnt depict it so violent, so harsh, and so unjust and as she did. The Effect Of Temperature On Students Mathematical Skills Our research is about the effect of room temperature on student mathematical skills. So we have performed the research in which we would be finding new hypothesis. In our research we want to see how student perform when they are exposed to the two temperatures 18-28(degree)  ° C, 30-40(degree)  ° C. Our research was backed by solid literature that have given us the plentiful ground to start the research is these areas. We have taken sample of 100 students undergraduate and graduate from our college. We have made three groups (control and two experimental groups which include cold and hot) these were tested under the temperature ranges. The randomly selected sample have above average, average, and under average grades taken in math courses. We have conducted our research by giving mathematical skill questions, with two temperatures mentioned above. One room was selected to conduct our research, it was important to see the schedule of load shedding in order to properly conduct our research. Our results have showed us that in a higher temperature condition will lead the student to poorly perform. When the same batch was assign another test in the cooler environment the results were positive. By this outcome we have concluded that our hypothesis is realistic. Introduction The global warming is affecting the temperature of whole world so it has also been effecting in our daily lives. Now days the room temperatures are not well managed, the load shedding has been a problem for everyone living in this country, which is affecting our research also. Problem statement: Our research main purpose is to determine whether or not ones thinking capability is affected when temperatures are unfavourable. Since ICBS also faces electricity dilemma we would like to find out that if the temperature does affect the students of ICBS. Literature review: Main studies which have shown that temperature does affect students performance in hot and cold temperature, Aluciems (1972) collected data from 23 classes of children, drawn from 19 secondary schools. Aluciems opened the windows of the classroom and recorded the temperature before, during, and after the completion of the task. Nelson, Nilsson, and Johnson (1984) had its participants write stories to accompany pictures in ambient temperatures of 55.4 °, 73.4 °, and 86 ° F. They also measured changes in participants subjective fatigue and mood using the Feeling Tone Check List and Mood Adjective checklist. Interestingly, Nelson found that participants wrote more words and stories in a cooler temperature (55.4 ° F). Dawson, B., Pyke, F. S. (1988)s research has shown that when the surrounding air is cool, heat can be lost from the body by the process of radiation (transfer of heat by electromagnetic waves), convection (by air movement), conduction (by contact), and evaporation (by sweating) and thus gives a cooling effect to the mind and body. As the above experiments conducted do show how temperature can affects students performance more proof was found by Holmberg and Wyon (1969) in this experiments, three parallel classes of 9 to 10 year-old children were exposed for two hours to each of three classroom temperatures -20[degrees]C, 27[degrees]C, and 30[degrees]C, 68[degrees]F, 80.6[degrees]F, and 86[degrees]F), encountered in balanced order, and four classes of 11- to 12-year-old children were similarly exposed to 20[degrees]C and 30[degrees]C (68[degrees]F and 86[degrees]F) in the morning and the afternoon in a 2 x 2 design, again in balanced order of presentation of conditions. As far as we can see that the impact of temperature does affects students as many of the experiments were conducted in various ways. To have the accurate figures one must first understand that what are the independent variable, the dependent variable and the intervening variable. A variable is anything that can take on differing or varying values or it is the most important factor that can alter the results of the experiment. Dependent variable: It is the variable of primary interest to the researcher. In this research Mathematical skills test would be the dependent variable since it cant be in control of the experiment. We randomly choose students who have an average, above average and under average grade in their math courses hence gave them mathematical skills questions to solve with varying room temperature. Independent Variable: An independent variable is one that influences the dependent variable in either a positive or negative way. Here in our research independent variable would be the temperature since we can control it. That is, when the independent variable is present (temperature), the dependent variable is also present (Mathematical skills test) and with each unit of increase in the temperature there will be an increase or decrease in the dependent variable. In other words, the students who performed in high temperature had less concentration on their test, leading to their test scores getting affected. It have the inverse relationship between the temperature and mathematical skills. To establish a causal relationship the independent variable is manipulated. One should remember that cause precedes the effect. The cause will be the dependent variable which would be the mathematical skills test and the effect would be the independent variable. Intervening variable is one that surfaces between the time the independent variable starts operating to influence the dependent variable and the time their impact is felt itself on it. In our experiment the intervening variable is the comfort level of the chairs if they are hard to sit on resulting in the dependent variable (mathematical skills test) scores affected, the desks on which the students took their test can be unstable allowing the students to get frustrated and disturbed during their test. Furthermore, the colour of the carpet and walls can make some student annoyed thus resulting in bad test scores. There can be many intervening variables. Hypothesis: Null: is a proposition that states a definitive exact relationship between two variables. Ho: p=0 No effect of temperature on mathematical skill test. Alternative: an educated conjecture that sets the parameters that one expects to find. HA: pà ¢Ã¢â‚¬ °Ã‚   0 Temperature does have an effect on the students mathematical skills test. Methodology Participants: We selected students from our college who were range between ages 18-30. Our sample size was 100 undergraduates and graduates; randomly chosen above average, average and under average students in math courses. Apparatus: The equipment which was important for carrying out the research was math skills questions, watch, room thermometer and a classroom. Procedure: In order to conduct our research we had set up a sample of 100 students to be divided between a control group comprising of 35 students and two experimental groups. Experimental group A Experimental group B The remaining 30 students were the part of the abovementioned experimental groups. A list of our college student was taken so that we can randomly choose students. Experimental group A was the group which took the math test in a room with temperature falling between the range of 18-28 ° C and we observed on the thermometer 25 ° C temperature while conducting the test. Further experimental group B was one in which same students of group A took the test but this time between a temperatures ranges of 30-40C. We observed on the thermometer 37C temperature while conducting the test. On 17th July Saturday we invited 15 people in Room A1 and administer the cold test. It took us almost 20 minutes to create the cold environment. Air conditioners were turned on beforehand. Duration of the tests was for 20 minutes. On the 24 July we take the remaining 15 students for Experimental group A (cold test) were asked to take the test. This way we completed giving 50 students test in one temperature condition. On 18th July Sunday, we conducted second part of our experiment. We gathered 15 same students from Cold test. We had taken down all their names and requested them to become part of our experiment for a second time. Experimental Group B was given the math test in Room A1 with a temperature range of 30-40 ° C and we observed a temperature of 37 ° C during the experiment. On 25 July we take 15 remaining students took the math test in Room A1. The Control group was given the test on 19th July which was Monday we take a sample of 35 students in A1 and on 26 July Monday i n room A1 with a sample of 35 students, showing 30 ° C on the thermometer. Reliability The reliability of the instruments was ensured through test-retest method. We again took 35 students of the same control sample we took before and another 35 students who already sat for the experiment (which were of the experimental Group A and B). Validity The content validity was ensured since all the questions of math were taken from the SAT book Result The data is collected using the questionnaires that were filled in by the participants. The control questionnaire was given out to be filled and the results were tabulated and arranged in ascending order, the total marks were out of 10. The same procedure was done for the hot and cold questionnaire and the total marks were the same. Then the correlation was found which came out to be 0.981, hence this shows that there is a relationship between temperature and students mathematical skills. We also computed the result on excel to tabulate the ANOVA Table. As per the above table is shows that the mean of Control group was 5.96 while the cold was 9.2 and hot group had a mean of 5.24. Therefore, since the F statistic is greater than the critical value, we accept the alternative hypothesis. The result shows that temperature it does affect students hence for good performance of students one should keep room temperatures preferable to cooler temperatures in summers. Table 4: Marks obtained in Control Test As per the above graph the control group had a temperature of 30  ° C hence the obtained mark of respondents are shown. Table 5: Marks Obtained in Hot Test The experimental group (hot) had a temperature range of 30-40  ° C. When we conducted the experiment the temperature on the thermometer shown was 35 ° C hence the obtained marks of respondents are shown on the graph. Table 6: Marks Obtained in Cold Test The experimental group (cold) had a temperature range of 18-28 ° C. When we conducted the experiment the temperature on the thermometer shown was 25 ° C hence the obtained marks of respondents are shown on the graph. Table 6: Comparison of marks obtained in all three tests Results of our research have shown us that students performed better in the cold comparative to the warm temperature as shown in the above line graph the Green line which represents cold was on a higher peak than hot and normal temperatures. Discussion We have concluded that we have agreed to our alternative hypothesis. Because that unfavourable temperatures have effected on our mathematical skills. According to the results of our research one can confidently say that there are a lot of drawbacks when the temperature is not according to ones choice. In our case we are talking about the high temperatures which did not allow students to perform well in their tests. We support our research based on the previous researches made on the fact that because of high temperature raises one does get effected health in the thinking capability, reading skills, physical skills (exercise) all of these factors and many more can result into negative effects to the body. We propose that ICBS should keep a temperature range of 18 to 28 ° C in the summer so as the students academic performance doesnt fall short.

Achieve success in life Essay

Education is the best tool in order to achieve success in life. This is the fundamental factor that determines one’s place in a very dynamic society. As an educator, my sole purpose is to ensure that students obtain a high-quality academic and social training that would equip them with the necessary knowledge and experiences to be well-prepared for the real world. Given this responsibility, I am determined to do everything that I can to make sure that my students reach their goals and objectives in life. Since one of my students is having some difficulty in combining his/her studies with work, I would try to help by alleviating the burdens of that student. First, I would conduct a one-on-one talk with him/her to determine the problems. It was mentioned that this student is a scholar and he/she must acquire a C average for the class to be able to keep his/ her scholarship. This student has no other option but to do better in class. But this does not mean that there is only a glimmer of hope because as a teacher I can maker some minor adjustments in order for the student to catch up in class. Some of the things that I would do are to extend deadlines, provide extra projects to pull up her average and utilize different technologies so that students can submit their outputs anytime and anywhere.
